Year 6 Baseline Assessment

Year 6 Baseline Assessment

Back to School Basics

This baseline assessment is designed to review pupils’ understanding of the Year 5 curriculum at the start of Year 6. The activities cover a broad range of grammar and writing objectives, including modal verbs, prefixes, relative clauses, adverbs of possibility, commas for clarity and different forms of parenthesis (brackets, commas and dashes). It also assesses pupils’ ability to use suffixes and link ideas across paragraphs with adverbials.

The assessment provides a clear snapshot of pupils’ prior knowledge, helping teachers identify strengths and areas for development early in the year. A full set of answers is included with each question mapped directly to National Curriculum aims, ensuring complete clarity about what is being assessed.
