In this lesson, children bring together everything they have learned about writing simple sentences and begin extending them with meaningful detail. Pupils build on their understanding of subjects, verbs, and adjectives by learning how to add where or when an event happened. Through clear, step-by-step modelling, children see how adjectives and when/where phrases help create richer, more interesting sentences. The lesson finishes with differentiated activities where pupils use picture prompts to write their own expanded sentences, choosing an adjective and either a when-phrase or a where-phrase to show a deeper understanding of sentence construction.
