Sentence Building
This sequence of learning provides a structured approach to developing sentence writing. It can be used for whole class teaching or as targeted support for pupils who need to secure the foundations of sentence construction. Children begin by learning how to build complete sentences before gradually developing their grammar knowledge and adding more detail to their writing.
Building Simple Sentences
These lessons focus on the foundations of sentence writing. Children learn what makes a complete sentence, developing their understanding of subjects, verbs and the extra information sometimes needed to make a sentence complete.
Extending Simple Sentences
These lessons build on the sentence foundations developed in Lessons 1–11. Children develop their understanding of nouns and adjectives before using this knowledge to improve their sentences with description and extra information about where or when something happened.
